10 Worst WWE Feuds Of 2016
2. The New Day Vs. Gallows & Anderson
The New Day are one of WWE’s biggest recent success stories. They shift merchandise like nobody’s business, they’re just about to break Demolition’s record as the longest reigning Tag Team Champions of all-time, and they’re comfortably the most popular team in the company. Unfortunately, they’ve also been at the centre of some of 2016’s worst angles, with their feud with Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows standing as the worst.
This rivalry was horrendous from start to finish. It took a number of unwanted diversions into goofball comedy territory, turning audiences away on a weekly basis, and culminating in the cringeworthy “Old Day” segment. Nobody wanted to see Gallows & Anderson carrying Big E’s testicle around in a jar for a month, but that’s exactly what we got.
More significantly, this feud spelled the end for Gallows & Anderson as a credible tag team. The misplaced comedy made it impossible to take their characters seriously, and they were treated like a couple of inept fools between the ropes. They scored a couple of meaningless wins over The New Day in non-title and singles action, but that was it. Kofi, Big E, and Woods routinely embarrassed them when the belt was on the line, and while this should have been a great feud to build the division around, it only damaged everyone involved.
