10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2007

8. Edge’s Loss Is The Great Khali’s Gain

There's a general rule of thumb in wrestling: If you can't give fans what was originally advertised, then give them something better. Apparently, somebody forgot all about that in 2007. Edge was forced to drop the World Heavyweight Title due a pectoral injury in July, and he wouldn't return until Survivor Series in November. That left a huge hole in the title scene.

Vince McMahon plumped for literally the worst choice.

The Great Khali won a 20-man Battle Royal on the 20 July episode of SmackDown to become the brand new champion. His matches had been putrid before that, and they continued to stink up the place now he had a strap to carry around. A bout vs. Batista at SummerSlam would go down as one of the worst ever; only John Cena can boast about squeezing something passable out of Khali.

Their match at One Night Stand in early-June happened before Khali was given the nod. Sadly for all concerned, Cena was a Raw guy and was thus unable to help maintain any sort of quality for Khali's title reign. As lead champ on SmackDown, Khali wrestled true stinkers against Batista and Kane (Great American Bash), big Dave (the aforementioned SummerSlam) and another 3-way with Batista and Rey Mysterio at Unforgiven.

That's when WWE ended the torture and stuck the belt back on somebody who could work a decent match. Batista won out, and it was back to midcard "attraction" matches for Great Khali. Y'know, before he became a 'Punjabi Playboy' who liked 'Kiss Cams', dancing and farting Divas.
