The Great American Bash 2005 marked the first PPV event after WWE decided to switch Batista and John Cena on their respective shows. With Batista now on the blue brand, his first feud would against the top heel on the brand, JBL. The pairing would be an absolute disaster as the two would go on to have some extremely poor matches. The worst of their series of the matches took place on this faithful night.

Other matches included The Undertaker vs Muhammed Hassan. This would act as the final appearance of the Hassan character, this was due to an extremely controversial segment that aired weeks prior. The majority of the rest of the card was full of lazy filler. Matches such as Torrie Wilson vs Melina and The Mexicools vs The Blue World Order had zero place on a PPV card and made fans question their purpose.

The PPV did have a highlight, however. A match between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero was another classic between the two legendary talents. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to save this PPV from being one of the worst PPV events of 2005.
