The Great American Bash 2004 wasn't just one of the worst PPV events of the Ruthless Aggression Era, it was truly one of the worst WWE PPVs of all time. The main event of the show featured The Undertaker v The Dudley Boyz in a Handicap Concrete Crypt match. If The Undertaker won he would be able to free Paul Bearer from the crypt placed at the top of the stage; however, if The Undertaker lost, Bearer would be trapped in concrete in a glass crypt. The match was terrible as The Undertaker and The Dudley Boyz had no chemistry. The finish of the match involved The Undertaker winning and then deciding to fill the crypt with concrete, killing off his manager in the process. This rendered the storyline and the match as a complete waste of everyone's time.

The undercard of the PPV featured some of the worst PPV matches of all time. Matches such as Luther Reigns v Charlie Haas, Mordecai v Scotty 2 Hotty and Torrie Wilson v Sable were all Velocity level at best.

The first and only WWE Title reign of the legendary Eddie Guerrero would also come to an end at the PPV. Eddie would lose the WWE Title to JBL in a Texas Bullrope match. Unfortunately, following this PPV the SmackDown product would drastically take a downward turn.
