10 Worst WWE Title Challengers
3. Jerry Lawler
With a career as legendary as his has been, there once would
have been a time where Jerry Lawler’s insertion to the WWE Title picture would
have been a fairly welcome development. However, 2011 was not that time.
Going back to that dearth of early-2011 title challengers, at Elimination Chamber we saw one third of the Raw announce team go up against the Miz with the championship on the line. Lawler had earned that right after winning a Battle Royal on Raw, but it was difficult to ever imagine that he’d be able to pull-off that miracle victory, largely due to the timing of it all.
The problem was that his title shot arrived just six weeks prior to WrestleMania. We're really supposed to believe that they’d give the belt to Lawler and have him head into ‘Mania as champ? Come on.
Failing that, there was a similarly slim chance of Lawler winning at Elimination Chamber but surrendering the belt back to the Miz soon after, because that would only have hurt Miz’s momentum heading into the biggest show of the year.
Either way, this one had filler feud written all over it, and while it could have been a good programme at another time of the year, they should probably have kept it out of the pre-WrestleMania run-in.
