10 Worst WWE Wrestlers Of 2016

8. Darren Young

A clear play on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, WWE’s quest to “make Darren Young great again” has been a complete failure. Young and his life coach Bob Backlund have made just one Raw appearance since mid-September, but perhaps the angle was doomed from the start. The former Prime Time Player is a decent enough performer, but with all due respect, when was he ever “great” in the first place?

The campaign debuted on a May episode of SmackDown, but Young and Backlund didn’t make their first live TV appearance together for over two months. This long delay killed whatever interest the vignettes had drummed up, and poor Darren was met by nothing but cricket chirps when he eventually appeared. He entered a brief Intercontinental Title program with The Miz, but it ended with a double countout at Battleground, and Young has struggled ever since.

The ensuing feud with Titus O’Neil was a total flop, and one of 2016’s worst. Nobody gave a hoot about either performer from the get go, and it speaks volumes that WWE eventually decided to end it without a proper blow-off match. Young has been dealt an awful hand by WWE this year, and his attempted reboot hasn’t worked at all.
