10 WrestleMania Matches That Surpassed All Expectations
5. Hulk Hogan Vs. Vince McMahon (WrestleMania XIX)
Let's be honest, the build-up to Hulk Hogan against Vince McMahon at WrestleMania XIX wasn't exactly promising. In one promo, The Hulkster very nearly described himself as the "right gay in the right place at the wrong time".
Plus, look at how old these two were. Hogan was 49, many of his recent matches having been contested at a snail's pace, while Vince - a non-wrestler (albeit one with improbably large biceps) - was pushing 60. How much of a "Street Fight" was this really going to be?
Oh, how little faith we had in the chairman of the board. On the night, he proved that he could walk the walk as well as talk the talk, taking his body to places nobody thought possible in what turned out to be the most violent encounter of the entire show.
At 20 minutes, one could argue that the bout was a touch on the long side, but on only a couple of occasions did you really feel its length. Interferences from Roddy Piper and Vince's own personal referee ensured that there was plenty to hold your gaze, and that this mismatch was at least halfway believable.
