10 Wrestler Deaths That Were Sick Internet Hoaxes

1. Hulk Hogan

Hogan Death Hoax If you were putting together a Mount Rushmore for professional wrestling, the first name on your list would be Hulk Hogan. The fact that his name is now almost always prefixed with "the immortal" on WWE programming tells you everything you needed to know. So, of course, if he is going to get a death hoax, it has to have something extra special to convince people. The Hulk Hogan scam that has been spreading across Facebook in recent weeks is a prime example of a scam that is given extra plausibility by pictures. The post suggests that Hogan has died after being shot in the head as part of some sort of revenge attack. It is linked to a still of Hogan, with his eyes closed and a bloodied face, which was actually taken from a 2009 promotional skit Hogan did with Ric Flair. As with many of these hoaxes, the story links to a Facebook page that tries to encourage users to complete surveys and inadvertently allow malware onto their computers. Unlike many of these stories, though, the scam was plausible enough that Hogan's representatives were forced to make a statement to confirm that the star is alive and well, despite the rumours. It just goes to show that some wrestling fans will believe just about anything.
