10 Wrestlers Who Are The Best In The World At Exactly ONE Thing
4. Dustin Rhodes: Veteran Sympathy
If Dustin Rhodes' name isn't in your "most underrated of all time" debates, you're messing up. While his career has unquestionably had its ups and downs and he was often impeded by personal issues, consider his resume's depth diversity - from his first TV classic against Big Van Vader in November 1992 to the blood-soaked brilliance of the Cody bout at Double Or Nothing 27 years later - and the endearing, timeless traits that allow him to still kill it in 2020, over three decades after debuting.
The former Goldust plays a very specific role when asked to put somebody over in a big singles match these days. He is the doomed, overmatched, broken-down hero marching into an unwinnable situation against an opponent he can't possibly hope to beat, yet he'll still pull you in regardless. Dustin is a legitimate genius at this. When a Lance Archer beats him down, it feels like a beloved family member is being slaughtered before your eyes, such is his ability to pull you in.
The sympathy he commanded as a fiery young underdog is even more poignant now that Dustin's career is nearing an end. Let's hope he has one more Cody or Vader classic left in him.
