Tensions were high as the WWF rolled into Montreal for the 1997 Survivor Series, especially between American wrestlers and their Canadian counterparts.

This led to a 4-on-4 Elimination Match pitting Team Canada against Team USA. Canada was represented by Phil Lafon, who was Canadian, The British Bulldog, who was from the UK, Jim Neidhart and Doug Furnas, who were American.

Right.

As for Team USA, that was comprised of Vader, Goldust, and Marc Mero. The Patriot was scheduled to be on the team, but, when he got injured, the WWF decided to introduce a brand new character to take his place.

On an episode of Raw, The Hart Foundation laid waste to Vader in the ring. However, before they could do any serious damage, a mystery man jumped the guard rail and fended them off.

That man was Steve Blackman.

Blackman was presented as a martial arts expert who decided to take things into his own hands when The Hart Foundation stepped out of line. To repay him, Vader bailed Blackman out of jail and got him a spot on Team USA.

And that's the only notable thing that happened at Survivor Series 1997...
