10 Wrestlers Who Desperately Need New Finishers
3. Hiroshi Tanahashi
There's an argument to be made that former New Japan ace Hiroshi Tanahashi is the best worker of all time. What makes Tanahashi so incredible is that he's not just a phenomenal athlete, he's a genius when it comes to putting together matches. That ensures that even as his physical capabilities decrease, he's still delivering classic bouts.
That said, his physical capabilities are decreasing. Anyone who's followed New Japan over the past couple of years knows that Tanahashi's been hurting - he's missed some ring time, and while the Japanese pro wrestling structure is such that the top star in the company won't be gone any longer than he absolutely needs to be, it's no accident that he's been in more tag team matches as of late.
Tanahashi's finishing move, the High Fly Flow, is no picnic for the 40 year old. A frog splash, it puts undue pressure on his knees, which have been bothering the star for a while. By retiring it - or at least saving it for special occasions - Tanahashi could do himself some favors. He's got a ton of other moves that can work, and while the High Fly Flow may seem sacred, so did his "High Energy" theme song, and that's gone.
