Coming into this year's absolutely sensational Backlash PLE, the LWO's Zelina Vega, who is of Puerto Rican descent, was originally set to be squashed by Raw Women's Champion Rhea Ripley in front of her fans in Puerto Rico.

The pair would instead go to war in a rather competitive encounter in front of a white hot crowd, of course, with WWE deciding that having Vega give Ripley a run for her money was the best shout for the instantly iconic event.

And Vega's brilliant babyface performance and unquestionable bond with the audience during that spectacular show actually led to WWE feeling that the star needed to be pushed heading out of Backlash.

In the wake of that well received battle with The Judgment Day Women's World Champion, the LWO lady would go on to earn a spot in this year's Money in the Bank, and pick up wins over the likes of Lacey Evans and IYO SKY.

All in all, this choice to have Vega not be easily swatted away by Ripley, ala Natalya at Night of Champions, was seen in WWE as a move that benefited everyone.

Ripley notched up another memorable defence in front of a passionate crowd. And Vega proved she was deserving of some more screen-time with her always improving work in the ring and those loud reactions from the folks watching on.
