10 Wrestlers Who Have Changed The Most Since AEW Launched

9. Peter Avalon

Chris Jericho
AEW

Peter Avalon's librarian gimmick was an example of things that sound great during late-night travelling; the kind of idea you type into your phone's notes app through strained and red eyes.

The gimmick dragged down both Avalon and his co-librarian Leva Bates. Bates' inclusion was particularly painful for any fan who remembers her NXT moment of glory at the first TakeOver: Brooklyn.

A character who shushes fellow wrestlers and the audience has little scope for expansion, it would take an amount of kayfabe that would melt the human mind to link a librarian to a reign with the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. His initial booking, which lasted over a year, was a losing streak storyline. Between 18 November and 30 December 2020, Pretty Peter racked up a five-win streak on AEW: Dark, before losing to Cody on Dynamite (20 January 2021).

Avalon may have resumed his losing ways, yet, his stable The Wingmen (alongside Cezar Bononi, Ryan Nemeth, and JD Drake) are one of the most consistently entertaining acts competing on AEW Dark. Comedy characters who can also shine in the ring are an asset to any wrestling promotion. Avalon without the book-smarts, while not gold-worthy, is a more exciting prospect than his mundane beginnings suggested.
