10 Wrestlers Who Have Peaked In 2022
3. CM Punk
Well, it was absolutely riveting while it lasted, eh?
After putting the finishing touches on arguably the most compelling feud in modern wrestling history opposite MJF at Revolution, CM Punk had only one direction to go. And it led straight through the then-current reigning AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page.
Completing the mother of all comebacks under the bright lights of Las Vegas, The Best in the World became Champion of the World. And so began the world title run that felt like little more than a fantasy for seven long years.
But in truth, this was as good as it got for the returning icon. And there's some who justifiably feel this could be as good as it'll ever get, too.
A botched crowd surf soon busted the newly crowned champ's foot and the bubble altogether, eventually forcing a Paradigm Shift and eventual Undisputed AEW World Championship showdown with Jon Moxley that exposed the bitterness that had been slowly infecting Punk in his time away from the spotlight.
By the time he'd reclaimed his prize at All Out, many sensed that the Chick Magnet honeymoon was well and truly over, and those feelings were soon made canon in a promotion-changing press conference pipebomb shortly after.
Punk peaked in 2022. And if that is truly the last fans see of the two-time AEW World Champion, there's no denying he went out at the very top.
