John Cena and Edge had one of WWE’s strongest feuds in 2006. This was Edge’s star-making year, and while fans had already grown sick of Super Cena by the time they tangled, this did nothing to hamper their work together. They put on a number of excellent matches throughout the year, and it all started in January, when Edge cashed-in his Money In The Bank briefcase to become WWE Champion for the very first time.

The reign wasn’t to last, and Cena reclaimed the gold just three weeks later. Their bad blood was only just starting to boil over, however, and by July, Edge had recaptured the Championship with a win over Rob Van Dam. He and Cena were once again set on a collision course, and at SummerSlam, Edge defeated Cena in the former champion’s Boston, MA hometown.

Cena would soon get his revenge, however. The rematch was booked as a TLC match at Unforgiven, and with the event taking place in Edge’s native Toronto, the champ was treated like a returning hero. Cena was predictably jeered, and while the fans were partisan in their support of Edge, the match didn’t finish how they’d imagined. John hit a super Attitude Adjustment from the top of the ladder, tossing Edge through a set of stacked stables, and claiming the gold.

Edge would go on to capture a further nine world titles throughout the rest of his career, but this was a crippling blow in home territory. The crowd were naturally furious at the result, and Cena sold it to perfection: he looked absolutely miserable as he drudged up the ramp, belt in hand.
