Some will read this and rightly say, '...but DIY just won the tag belts!'. They did, but think of this as more of a look at Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa individually. They were probably always going to enjoy a tag title run at some point, but both were higher up the food chain in NXT as singles stars.

They're unlikely to get that chance on Raw or SmackDown.

Ciampa, for example, was NXT's premier heel during his acclaimed days as a villain. Gargano was more of a spitfire babyface, but he also had some fine moments on the developmental brand. Individually, neither could really get going on the main roster. Check out Johnny Wrestling's return in 2022 for proof of that - it fizzled out pretty swiftly.

Meanwhile, Tommaso was involved in a going-nowhere alliance with The Miz that everyone would like to forget. Sure, DIY deserve praise for overcoming all of that, reuniting as a team and winning gold, but their brightest days defo came down in NXT.
