The parallels between DX and nWo are evident to all.

Which team was better is a common debate, however, both spawned popular and lucrative brands that have been selling large quantities of merch since the ‘90s. While both stables thrived on bringing anarchy to their home promotions, DX did so with added laughter.

Even for the Attitude Era’s increasingly young fanbase, DX’s antics were underpinned by a juvenile and puerile sense of humour, which pushed the envelope until they were straddling the censor’s limit. They peppered their promos with foul language, innuendo, mooning, and edgelord humour (still relatively fresh at the time). Their “Suck It” catchphrase was just the right amount of offensive to plaster on t-shirts. The slogan, and its accompanying gesture, became lodged into the cultural zeitgeist.

Shawn Michaels and Triple H behaved like live-action versions of Beavis and Butt-Head, casting Chyna as a perfect Daria. The DX founding fathers have great Chad jerk chemistry with an irreverent mocking sense of humour. Even when they returned in the ‘00s, becoming a parody of themselves, they were still a huge draw. The group’s comedic sensibility no doubt helped them towards the Hall of Fame.
