10 Wrestlers Who Retired Way Too Early

4. Edge

Looking back at Edge's time in the ring, it is no great surprise that he retired young. The 'Rated-R Superstar's career was full of death-defying bumps and injury. Two weeks after retaining the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXVII, Edge called time on his tenure. He was just 37 years old.

There wasn't a huge amount left for the 11-time world champion to accomplish. Edge is one of only two men to win the King of the Ring, Money in the Bank, and the Royal Rumble (the other? Sheamus...). The 'Ultimate Opportunist' is one of the most decorated wrestlers in WWE history, with 31 championships to his name. He headlined WrestleMania, and his 2012 Hall of Fame induction was well-deserved.

Still, who wouldn't want to see Edge vs. Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Shinsuke Nakamura, and the rest? Edge was already beginning to slow down when his in-ring days were coming to a close, but if healthy he would have gone on to be a hugely valuable veteran on the WWE roster.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
