10 Wrestlers Who Sacrificed The Most To Become WWE Champion
8. Eddie Guerrero
Eddie Guerrero is another wrestler who sacrificed a lot and battled serious injuries throughout his career. In Eddie's case, he not only had his fair share of injuries, but he also had his personal demons that he had to overcome. Eddie made a name for himself in Mexico, Japan, ECW and WCW before making it to WWE in 2000. He was fired by WWE in late 2001 because of his problems with drugs and alcohol. It took about six months for him to get back to the company in 2002. When he did, he was a changed man and went from midcard wrestler and tag wrestler to a legitimate top guy on the Smackdown brand. It's pretty incredible that a guy that was only about 5'8" could win over the fans the way he did and, more importantly, prove to Vince McMahon (who has always preferred bigger wrestlers) that he deserved the top spot. It is that struggle that made his WWE Title win at No Way Out 2004 such an emotional moment for wrestling fans. It's fair to say that when he won that title for the first and only time, the fans felt it with him because we were a part of what he went through. He opened his heart to us in telling his journey, so that when that moment arrived it was special for all of us. Sadly, Eddie passed away in late 2005 due to a heart attack. He was actually under consideration for another World Title run when he died. It's coming up on ten years since he left us and he's always going to be remembered as one of the most beloved superstars ever.
