10 Wrestlers Who Were Supposed To Get Other Wrestlers Over (But Got Over Themselves)

2. AJ Styles (Roman Reigns)

2016 was a rough year, creatively, for Roman Reigns. The poor sod had to stand there with a smile on his face as torrents of abuse rained down from the stands at WrestleMania 32, and things didn't look like they were going to get any better after that pay-per-view. Not to worry, 'cause WWE had a plan.

Feed him super-worker AJ Styles.

AJ was a fresh face on the WWE landscape who had earned plaudits for his Rumble debut before spluttering through a flubbed tag split from (very) short-lived partner Chris Jericho. What the company didn't think much about was that Styles desperately wanted his feud with Reigns to be a success too. In fact, he needed it just as bad as Roman did, and that's why he ended up getting over.

Styles couldn't afford to fail. Realistically, he was never going to. Peeps can say what they want about Roman's crappy superhero gimmick five years ago, but he was always one hell of a worker bell-to-bell. Add AJ into the mix and WWE didn't just have someone who could ease Reigns' pain - they had someone who was going to springboard himself higher.
