10 Wrestlers Who Will Be WWE Champion By The Next US Election
2. Mustafa Ali
Mustafa Ali's time as a major competitor in WWE has so far been a case of what could have been. After pinning then WWE Champion Daniel Bryan prior to his appearance in that year's Elimination Chamber, Ali seemed to have all the momentum in the world going into the event. However an injury at the eleventh hour prevented him from competing, and his spot was filled by Kofi Kingston, which led to the rise of Kofi-Mania and resulted in Ali sliding back down the pecking order.
After a quiet 2019, the former Chicago police officer was taken off television. Many expected him to return as the SmackDown hacker which had been making sporadic appearances on the brand for months. Unfortunately, Ali returned to be revealed as the head of the much-maligned RETRIBUTION, a role which while significant, is unlikely to help his chances as a main-event player.
With that said, WWE higher-ups clearly see a lot in Ali as a top talent. It is unlikely they would have given him the role as head of a major stable unless the company had big plans for him in the future. Plus, when in the ring, there are few wrestlers in WWE able to have matches as exciting as him. While he may need time to recover from the RETRIBUTION debacle, there is still good reason to believe Ali may be able to reach the top of the WWE mountain in the near future.
