Whilst his backstage influence has always been welcomed, fans were beginning to grow a little tired of Shane McMahon the wrestler after he joined forces with his dad to take on the reformed D-Generation X back in 2006. But fast forward a decade and his return to the ring - though initially derided (mainly because it felt a little galling to draft him in as one of Undertaker's last ever 'Mania opponents) - eventually proved popular.

His Hell in a Cell encounter with the 'Deadman' was probably the weakest of his three matches since; the second two - the five-on-five Survivor Series match in which he took a hands-on role as SmackDown GM, and the WrestleMania 33 opener against AJ Styles - were both excellent. Shane O'Mac has generally been, by some way, the most well-liked member of his family, but the last year has done wonders for his legacy.
