10 Wrestlers WWE Are Currently Dropping The Ball With

5. American Alpha

Of all the NXT call-ups to flop on the main roster over the past year, American Alpha are the most spectacular failure. Once one of Full Sail University’s hottest acts, Chad Gable & Jason Jordan have become spare parts in the tag division. They were champions for a while, but lost the belts to The Usos in March, and haven’t even wrestled a televised tag match since late April.

WWE have totally failed in getting them over. In NXT, they came together as part of a long-term storyline that started with Jordan reticent to team with Gable, before they found common ground, and eventually became best friends. The crowd took the journey with them, which built investment and got them over. Alpha haven’t been allowed that opportunity on SmackDown, and their ring entrances ellicit cricket chirps and tumbleweed as a result.

American Alpha haven’t had a chance to show their personalities on SmackDown. They don’t get any promo time, and their one feud (vs. The Usos) felt like no more than a loosely connected string of matches. Once the company’s most exciting young tag team, Alpha are lost at sea, and it’s entirely down to the lack of effort that has gone into their main roster push.
