Bruce Prichard once revealed via his podcast that he and Pat Patterson thought Scotty Steiner would be a fine pick to win the 1993 Royal Rumble then headline WrestleMania IX opposite Bret Hart. Vince McMahon vehemently disagreed, pointing out that he'd have to split from Rick to make it work.

McMahon preferred both as a tag-team, so the WWF didn't even get as far as asking The Steiners if they'd be cool with splitting up. What followed was a middle of the road tag run for one of the most exciting duos in wrestling. Then, they lowkey left the company and eventually returned to WCW in 1994.

That was failure number one, but failure number two was next level.

Steiner was a bigger deal when he rejoined WWE in November 2002. The promotion believed they had a ready-made main eventer on their hands, but injuries destroyed Scott's chances. Two calamitous bouts vs. Triple H in early-2003 put any thoughts of top line success to bed.

What a shame.
