10 Wrestlers WWE Tried To Push To The Top (But Failed)

6. The Miz

When you look back in the history books, they will say that The Miz headlined the main event of WrestleMania XXVII. Not only that, but they will also say that he beat John Cena in that very match. It's mind-boggling to think that The Miz, a man who was resented by fans and despised by the locker room in the mid-2000s, actually main evented a WrestleMania and beat the company's top star. But it happened. Miz, to his credit, get there via a mix of luck, hard work and being in the right place at the right time. Up until his singles push, Miz had been a Tough Enough contestant, the 'host' of Smackdown and a member of an entertaining tag team with John Morrison. But he was always, crucially, a midcarder. Fans never saw him as anything other than that. Miz split from Morrison and started showing great improvement as a character and wrestler in 2010. His victory in the Raw Money In The Bank ladder match signalled to fans that WWE were ready to push him. Miz cashed in his Money In The Bank contract on the November 22nd 2010 episode of Raw, defeating Randy Orton. Feuds with Orton, Jerry Lawler and Cena followed. Once Miz lost the title to Cena Extreme Rules in 2011, he rapidly moved down the card. Miz's time was over. WWE, to their credit, had done what they could to make Miz seem like a player to WWE fans but he just never looked like he belonged there. Miz's current act with partner Damien Mizdow is his level. He is entertaining in the role but, for the love of God, he should never be anywhere near a WrestleMania main event every again.
