10 Wrestlers You Didn't Realise Wrestled For WWE In 1996

1. The Hardy Boyz

It is no secret that Matt and Jeff Hardy both appeared on WWE TV on several occasions before their official arrival in 1998. The two performed job duty to many stars between 1994 and ’98, coming up short against Waylon Mercy, Leif Cassidy, Rad Radford and more. Common knowledge.

What isn’t quite as known is that the famous tag team didn’t make their bow as a team until 1996. What’s more, the first Hardy Boyz match in WWE history was for the WWF Tag Team Championships, as the future champs challenged then-titleholders The Smoking Gunns on an episode of Superstars.

The match wasn’t much to write home about, Matt and Jeff bumping around for Billy and Bart as the commentary team conducted an inset interview with The Godwinns and Hillbilly Jim. The Hardyz had two more televised tag team matches in 1996, chalking up L’s against The New Rockers and The Grimm Twins, although the latter match saw them use their Jynx Brothers personas.

Their what now? Ingus and Wildo Jynx, obviously. Those wacky, wacky Hardy Boyz.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
