10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week
5. Paul Heyman Didn't Promote ECW November To Remember '97
The common story is that Paul Heyman micro-managed everything to do with ECW. Whilst that's largely true, the evil genius did outsource some responsibility to his most trusted lieutenants when he felt it was necessary to do so. On the Triple Threat Podcast, Shane Douglas remembered benefiting from that trust.
Before ECW's November to Remember 1997 pay-per-view, Heyman put Douglas in charge of promoting the event. The show would emanate from the Golden Dome in Monaca, Pennsylvania, Shane's home state. The pressure was on too, because this was the first November To Remember card that made it onto pay-per-view, and Douglas was wrestling against Bam Bam Bigelow in the main event.
As he was going over the layout of his match with Bigelow, Douglas also had to juggle queries from staff, including his concession manager asking when they could get more nacho chips. Right before his match, Shane was surprised when Heyman approached him, told him he'd done a wonderful job, and to enjoy his hometown moment.
