5. Edge Was Earmarked To Win The World Title At Taboo Tuesday 2004

"Son of a bitch".

Those were Edge's very words when Shawn Michaels pipped him in the voting at Taboo Tuesday 2004 and snagged a World Heavyweight Title match with Triple H. It's not that the Canadian was looking forward to this match in particular or anything, but instead had more to do with the fact he'd been told he'd be winning the title that night.

If only WWE's fan voting system hadn't been 100% legit. 38.72% of fans tuning in voted for HBK, compared to 33.42% for Edge and 27.86% for Chris Benoit. That was the only thing stopping Edge from capturing his first World Title. Had he won the vote, Vince McMahon had promised a career-altering win.

Edge told this story during a live Q&A event with Inside The Ropes in Glasgow, Scotland. Before the show aired, management believed he'd be the one to get the most votes, and that's why they bothered to give him a heads-up about potentially winning the big prize.

When it didn't happen, he was gutted.
