10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Jan 20)
3. Chris Jericho Was Supposed To Work With Dean Ambrose At 'Mania 32
When fans look back on the amazing debut year AJ Styles had, it's often forgotten that he was briefly in a tag-team with Chris Jericho. In time for WrestleMania 32, the union dissolved and Jericho turned heel on the newcomer. At 'Mania, Y2J beat Styles on WWE's grandest stage.
That wasn't the original plan, Jericho was supposed to work with someone else in Arlington, Texas. Initially, it was going to be Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania. Vince McMahon was sweeter on the idea of Jericho vs. Styles though, Y2J revealed this to Busted Open Radio.
Sowing the seeds for his eventual heel run, Jericho deliberately acted out of touch as a babyface. This was supposed to grate on Ambrose, leading to a big showdown in the AT&T Stadium. Pushing back Jericho's turn, the creative team followed McMahon's orders because the boss felt the tag-team had legs.
Meanwhile, Jericho's proposed feud with Ambrose was also postponed. Even though that pair would work together on pay-per-view after 'Mania, Vince liked the idea of Jericho vs. Styles better in Texas.
