10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Jan 26)

1. Triple H Was Supposed To Wrestle The Rock Or Steve Austin At 'Mania XXX

It's a good thing that WrestleMania XXX turned out the way it did, because it would prove to be a historic night for one Daniel Bryan. Firstly, Bryan defeated Triple H in the show's opening match, before toppling both Randy Orton and Batista to leave as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It was a memorable night, but it could have been notable for different reasons. According to the Wrestling Observer, Bryan vs. Triple H wasn't the first idea WWE officials had in mind. This will hardly be news to many, because subsequent reports suggested that CM Punk had been earmarked as Triple H's opponent for the event. As it turns out, Vince McMahon had something else in his mind. McMahon favoured either The Rock or Steve Austin as viable foes for his son-in-law. Either bout would have been part of an ongoing power struggle storyline between Vince and Triple H on television. Things would have come to a head at WrestleMania, but McMahon couldn't get either Rock or Austin to commit. It's pretty clear that 'Mania XXX could have panned out a lot differently.
