10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (June 5)
8. Jeff Jarrett Says There's An Upside To Piracy
As the chief of Global Force Wrestling, Jeff Jarrett has thus far engaged in a lot of chatter about the upstart organisation, without there really being much in the way of anything tangible for pro wrestling enthusiasts to sink their teeth into. Several names have been announced for prospective initial TV tapings in July, but thus far the company has really amounted to little more than an affiliation with New Japan Pro Wrestling. The annual Tokyo Dome supershow put on by NJPW featured the Global Force name in advertising, and upon speaking out on that Wrestle Kingdom 9 event from January this past week, Jarrett had some interesting words to say regarding the age of internet piracy, and how it affects professional wrestling on the whole. Rightly stating that it's the music industry which has felt the biggest impact of people illegally downloading media, the former WWE, WCW and TNA star intriguingly said that there's somewhat of an upside to internet piracy, because it at least means that folks are taking an interest in the product. Jarrett feels that the real challenge is in converting those people into paying customers, which is really the responsibility of the promotion's management.
