10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (March 27)
9. WWE Want To Trademark 'The Boogeyman'
One of the more strange items to break this week comes in the form of the news that WWE have filed a case to trademark 'The Boogeyman'. The character will be making his usual appearances at the WrestleMania fan Axxess, but it's unlikely such news will lead to the gimmick coming back onto television, at least not regularly. Trying something similar in 2005, WWE were unsuccessful in their appeal to copyright the name, and it's difficult to ascertain what has changed in the decade since then to mean the rights to the moniker are in sight. The Boogeyman is a weird character, one which didn't really catch on the way the company may have hoped, but does still retain some element of fear. Sporadic appearances have been the norm for the man since 2012, usually to fill out airtime on gimmick shows such as the Slammy Award episodes of Monday Night Raw, or even as part of the Royal Rumble match. What if WWE were bringing back The Boogeyman full time, is there really any need? The likes of Bray Wyatt is doing a far superior job as a creepy heel than the worm-eating shaman ever did.
