"Spend my day working hard on the go, but the hands on the clock keep spinning too slow. I can't wait to be alone with my baby tonight".

Were those lyrics from the Jeff Jarrett/Roadie classic designed to reflect Jeff pining after his sweetheart once he'd won some wrestling matches? No, not even close. They were in fact penned as a musical love note to Jim Johnston's wife, and originally had sod all to do with pro wrestling.

On the 'Total Engagement' podcast, Johnston admitted that 'With My Baby Tonight' was an external composition written away from the WWF studios. Before it became part of the product, it was something Jim enjoyed playing in several bands for the love of his life.

Almost 25 years on, it remains a key part of Jeff's gimmick, was forced back into the public conscious by Bruce Prichard and is barely associated with Johnston at all. Read the lyrics and it becomes clear that the tune is effectively about Jim getting funky with his gal.
