On the surface, it won't surprise many to learn that it was Vince McMahon who recommended a mop to Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose as a weapon. Several items were hanging above the Steel Cage the pair used for their Asylum Match at Extreme Rules, with a mop and fire extinguisher being the most tame.

Via his popular podcast, Talk is Jericho, Y2J said it was Vince's idea to use the mop first. Looking to add some comedic relief to the bout proved a mistake, and fans didn't become invested in the action until much later on. Arguably, it wasn't until thumbtacks were introduced that people really started paying attention.

Upon learning of McMahon's order to use a mop in the match, Jericho asked production staff to put coffee and dirt on the floor-cleaner. Then, when Ambrose used it on him during the pay-per-view, it would leave marks on his body and come across like an insult.

That was wishful thinking, but the wrestlers were simply following instructions from the boss.
