10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Nov 6)
6. Goldberg Wishes He Could Change Everything About 'Mania XX Match
Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar remains one of the strangest matches in WrestleMania history. At 'Mania XX, the colossal pair were set to collide in a match also featuring Steve Austin as the Special Guest Referee. There was only one problem, both Lesnar and Goldberg had made their intentions clear in previous weeks, they were going to leave WWE. Goldberg wasn't enjoying his run, and Lesnar had long since tired of the gruelling travel schedule the company employed. This led to a situation in which Austin was - by far - the most popular attraction in the bout. Fans at Madison Square Garden decided to boo the wrestlers out of the building, and taunt them with various chants related to their respective situations. Speaking about the situation now, Goldberg feels it was a complete shambles. In his own words, the former WCW World Champion wishes the match simply didn't take place at all. This contrasts previous comments, during which he assessed that the match 'was what it was'. There was nothing to be gained from the scenario for Bill or Brock, they were hanging themselves out to dry. Unfortunately for them, they had to fulfill contractual obligations. For Goldberg, the entire ordeal was a mess, one he regrets happening.
