10 Wrestling-Inspired Movies That Would Be Better Ideas Than 'Crossface'

4. Gorgeous George

'Gorgeous' George Wagner wasn't just one of the most popular pro wrestlers of his generation but a pop culture icon whose influence stretched far beyond the realms of the squared circle. You know somebody's important when both Muhammad Ali and James Brown cite them as a major inspiration. Why nobody has yet to give him the biopic treatment remains a mystery.

While showmanship was hardly new to the wrestling industry, Gorgeous George took it to new heights. Almost single-handedly establishing the now-standard notion of gimmick wrestlers and the viability of pro wrestling as a televised product, George revolutionised the entire business, becoming both a national celebrity and the highest-paid athlete in the world during the 1950's.

Sadly, Gorgeous George's later years were blighted by alcohol abuse, costly divorces and poor investments and he died almost penniless in 1963 at just 48. The incredible story of how one man changed his industry, pop culture and the notion of Americana as a whole makes George Wagner's life story one that is virtually begging for the big-screen treatment.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
