10 Wrestling Matches That Carried The Highest Stakes

If one entered a match and realized they weren’t going to win and didn’t want to get hurt any longer, they could theoretically just lay down and let their opponent pin them or get counted out. But in an Inferno or Buried Alive Match, the only way out is to possibly die.

Luckily, every Inferno Match ever has ended with the person with the most skin covered up losing, and somehow, everyone who has been buried alive by a ton of dirt has returned looking no worse for wear. We have no idea how these people survive these things, but the fact that they risk their own life so they can maybe kill their pesky opponent is quite brave and quite stupid.

Since roughly 93% of wrestling gimmick matches have some sort of outside nonsense to them, putting your life in the hands of the unknown is not too bright. Still...those flames look kind of cool I guess.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
