"That was the sh*ts", but I had fun." Those may have been Steve Austin's thoughts had he been quizzed as soon as he returned back through the MSG curtain at 'Mania XX.

Austin was positioned as an added bonus for the colossal Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg clash, but he ended up outshining both as special referee. Before the show, WWE learned that Goldberg wasn't going to extend his contract and that Brock was tired of the relentless road schedule. Just like that, two big stars were on their way out, and the smart New York crowd knew it.

They battered Lesnar and Goldberg with, "You Sold Out", "You Both Suck" and other disparaging, critical chants, and their trolling volume turned the epic match into a farce. Austin was the only one cheered, especially when he delivered some post-match Stunners to the wantaway behemoths.

WWE had committed to Brock vs. Goldberg, recognised it was too late to change anything and stuck it out there despite knowing fans would reject it. Goldberg has since revealed that the match was one of the most embarrassing experiences of his life.
