And speaking of Japanese wrestling superstars we never thought we'd see compete in a WWE ring, how about Kota Ibushi's incredible run through the Cruiserweight Classic tournament on the WWE Network this year?

Not only that but 2016 saw the welcome return of now grizzled veteran Brian Kendrick, working the 'one last shot' storyline through the cruiserweight tournament. After the up-and-down career Kendrick has had, it was quite incredible seeing him inside a WWE ring once again (and how he's now killing it on Raw on a weekly basis at the age of 37).

All this led to a phenomenal showdown between Ibushi and Kendrick in the CWC quarter-finals in a bonafide dream match which resulted in one of the best bouts of the entire tournament. Kendrick even busted out a Burning Hammer on Ibushi which is a sight we're not going to forget anytime soon.
