Icon. Showstopper. Main Event. Shawn Michaels could very well be the greatest wrestler of all time, and as such he will always be beloved by fans. He's so beloved that it's easy to forget that he made his name by stabbing his best friend in the back. When Michaels went on "The Barbershop" with his Rockers tag-team partner, fans were initially relieved to see they had set their differences aside - only for Michaels to superkick his partner and infamously throw him through the Barbershop window. This kicked started Michaels career in a way few could predict. With Sensational Sherri by his side, "The Heartbreak Kid" was a heel for a new generation. The ring announcer would announce both his arrival and exit from the building. You also had Sherri who would carry a heart-shaped mirror for him to admire himself in pre and post-match. When Michaels transitioned to DX, it was again more often as a heel and one much closer to the real-life HBK who was known to be difficult to work with at the time. While his return run saw him solidly as a face for the remaining eight years of his career, and included face vs face feuds with John Cena and Ric Flair, recently he's been more of a heel during his rare appearances. His best friend is currently the evil authority figure, so it makes sense for Michaels to side with The Authority when asked his opinion on kayfabe matters. When he superkicked Daniel Bryan at last year's Hell in a Cell, many hoped this would set up a Student v Teacher match later down the line. If HBK were to come out of retirement there couldn't be a better opponent for him than the former American Dragon.
