10 WWE Bait And Switches Which Actually Worked
5. AJ Styles Steps In To Face Brock Lesnar (Survivor Series 2017)
WWE Champion Jinder Mahal vs. Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at 2017's Survivor Series was destined to be utter sh*t.
There's no way around that fact. Lesnar barely turned up against opponents closer to his size and stature at the best of times. Booking him to face a star who was nothing more than a walking piece of lean beef with a terrible finisher, all but guaranteed a punishing contest... for the fans.
However, in the final hour, when the WWE Universe had fully resigned themselves to the horrors that awaited them at the 'brand warfare' PPV, Vince McMahon opted to catch us all off guard with another fantastic bait and switch.
After starting a feud with Mahal just a couple of weeks earlier, AJ Styles was suddenly given a shot at the WWE title on a SmackDown Live taping in Manchester and lo and behold 'The Phenomenal One' vanquished Mahal overseas. This made Styles the first WWE titleholder crowned outside of North America.
More importantly this meant that fans would now be treated to a Styles vs. Lesnar showdown at Survivor Series which more than lived up to the hype. Sure, it wasn't as last minute as the other entries on this list, but it still completely upended a match which had been built towards for weeks just 12 days out from the event.
Not all WWE bait and switches leave you frothing at the mouth, some even open up the door for once in a lifetime dream matches.
