10 WWE Booking Steps To Daniel Bryan vs Dolph Ziggler At SummerSlam
2. Summer Breeze
Looking to find his way onto the main roster, NXT's Tyler Breeze gets hired by Dolph Ziggler to help protect him and alleviate some of the duties that come with being Intercontinental Champion. That includes bearing the brunt of Daniel Bryan's frustrations, in a similar way to how Edge enlisted Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder to take substitute beatings from The Undertaker and Batista. Breeze carries many of the same traits as a heel Ziggler - arrogance, narcissism, attention-seeking - and serves as a perfect folly for Bryan's Intercontinental ambitions. Bryan spends several weeks beating Breeze in solo competition, and even when Ziggler joins him for a tag match against Bryan and R-Truth, Bryan still comes out victorious. The next week, Ziggler says that if Bryan and Truth can beat him and Breeze in 2-on-2 rematch action, then Bryan gets his Intercontinental Championship match, and that Truth can have a match with Breeze under any stipulation he wants. Before the match begins however, the Show Offs take Truth out backstage, leaving Bryan in a classic underdog situation of a handicap match. Sure enough, as Bryan looks like he's down and out, an injured R-Truth makes his way down to the ring and levels the playing field, as Bryan hits the running knee for the win. Truth chooses to face Breeze in a Falls Count Anywhere match, while Bryan gets his Intercontinental title shot at Summerslam, building to one of the most hotly-anticipated matches at the one of the biggest events WWE has to offer.
