10 WWE Castoffs Who Are Killing It In AEW
9. Ruby Soho
One of the most recent examples of an underutilized wrestler being discarded by WWE and making an immediate impact has to be Ruby Soho (nee Riott).
Well-liked and respected in the industry, Ruby achieved a modicum of success in NXT before being called up to the main roster as leader of a trio called the Riott Squad. The group was little more than enhancement talent for bigger stars, though Ruby did get a Raw Women’s Championship PPV match against Ronda Rousey – where she got obliterated. Injuries and piss-poor booking upon her return made it clear WWE didn’t see a future for Soho. She was cut loose in June.
After changing her name and filming a series of vignettes, Soho made her AEW debut as the joker in the Casino Battle Royal, which she won, at All Out in September. She lost her AEW Women’s Championship match, but she’s remained a featured player on TV and is currently in the tournament to crown the TBS Women’s Champion and could be seen as a likely secondary titleholder.
Already, Ruby has gotten more positive direction in her two months in AEW than she did in the last two years with WWE. From afterthought to championship material. Not too shabby.
