10 WWE Developmental Champions Who Came To Nothing

2. Brent Albright

It all started pretty well for Brent Albright on SmackDown. Re-christened Gunner Scott, he actually managed to defeat Booker T in his opening match, albeit thanks to Boogeyman-distraction. This was followed by a backstage segment with Chris Benoit, where Benoit endorsed his effort and ability. Scott was taken under Benoit's wing somewhat, but this didn't last and before long he was getting squashed by The Great Khali, sent back to OVW, and released.

Boy, did he do well in OVW though. Brent Albright was actually the first OVW Triple Crown Champion, winning the OVW Heavyweight Championship two times, the Television Title once, and the tag belts on one occasion with Chris Masters. Albright did all there was to do in OVW, and was also involved in one of the hottest OVW feuds of all time, against CM Punk, a feud that had the fingerprints of Paul Heyman all over it.

The Punk/Albright feud was arguably the finest feud OVW had during its time as WWE's developmental program, but the two men involved could not have had more different careers once the main roster came-a-knockin'.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
