Mrs. Terri Runnels entered WWF under the moniker of Marlena at the 1996 Royal Rumble as the valet to her real-life husband Dustin 'Goldust' Runnels. In what is becoming a recurring theme, the real-life troubles the couple went through in 1998 were matched on-screen by a storyline during which Marlena and Goldust dropped their gimmicks, used their real names and Terri revealed she been having an affair (including an 'adult film') with Val Venis. The couple would divorce in 1999, shortly after Goldust quit the company. As for Terri, she remained behind, becoming a prominent Diva of the Attitude Era, appearing on magazine covers, spreadsheet photo shoots and featuring in matches and storylines through to her requested release from the company in 2004, after a fulfilling eight year career and five years beyond the point she and Goldust split. He had since returned to the company and been released once again. Terri might certainly have got her break into the industry thanks to her husband but she certainly made good her claim to fame beyond him in the years that would follow.
