10 WWE Elimination Chamber Records That May Never Be Broken
2. A World Title Drought
The last time we saw a top tier title defended inside the Elimination Chamber was back in 2014, when Randy Orton left with WWE World Heavyweight gold in tow.
That may not seem so long ago, but it means that, at this year’s event, we’ll
be seeing the end of an unprecedented three-year drought of the big prize in Chamber
action.
We’ve thrice seen a two-year break between World Title Chamber matches, first between 2003 and 2005, again from 2006 to 2008, and finally between 2012 and 2014 - but never have we had to wait three years for the top prize to be contested inside the structure.
This is of course because the Elimination Chamber PPV had, until recently, lost its spot on the company calendar. An impromptu event was arranged for last May, although that featured only Intercontinental and Tag Team Championship bouts, while the WWE Championship was contested in singles action.
Fingers crossed we won’t have to wait this long again for the next WWE/Universal Chamber match, because really, if any belt should be worthy of this stipulation, then it’s the premier prize(s) in the company.
