10 WWE Heels Who Were Actually Babyfaces In Disguise
2. Randy Savage
The Mega Powers’ explosion is a classic wrestling story. It started in 1987, when Hulk Hogan saved Randy Savage from a brutal beatdown at the hands of the Honky Tonk Man. Their alliance continued when Hogan’s interference effectively handed Savage the WWE Championship at WrestleMania IV, with Savage’s valet, Elizabeth, acting as the binding force.
Things took a nasty turn shortly after Hogan took Elizabeth as his manager in 1989, however. Hulk accidentally eliminated Savage from the Royal Rumble, and they fought in the aftermath. Elizabeth took an injury while the Mega Powers wrestled the Twin Towers a few weeks later, but it was Hogan, not Savage, who tended to her. The Hulkster took Savage and carried her to the back, leaving the Macho Man high and dry.
Why did Hogan do this? Lust, of course. Liz’s loyalty to Savage came through when she was revived and demanded Hogan to return to the ring to help Savage, but the damage was already done. Savage turned on Hogan by assaulting him in the medical room, but really, what else was he supposed to do? And no point did Hogan fess up and try to clear the air, and thus began the road to WrestleMania V, and one of the greatest WWE Championship matches of all-time.
