10 WWE Legends Who Had AWFUL Pay-Per-View Debuts
6. Edge (SummerSlam 1998)
Edge would probably rather people forgot all about his, too.
Following a disaster of a televised debut, in which Edge accidentally injured his opponent's neck during a dive spot, against José Estrada Jr, the Canadian must have been hoping for better things come SummerSlam 1998. He wouldn't get them, because he was a bit-part player thrust into the real story between Marc Mero, Jacqueline and Sable.
Weeks had been spent on TV pondering who Sable would pick to be her mystery tag-team partner on the pay-per-view, and that was a mistake. When it turned out to be a fresh-faced newcomer like Edge who fans weren't familiar with yet, Madison Square Garden groaned for a brief second, then fell completely silent. That had to be crushing for Edge. He was surely banking on a bigger response.
Being ignored by the most famous arena on the circuit can't have been fun, and there was a further sense of apathy whenever Edge entered the ring. People in New York didn't want to see him; they wanted to see Sable get in and kick Mero's ass.
