3. The So-Called “Summer Of CM Punk”
There was a time when nobody could move without someone in a white CM Punk tee talking about the "Summer Of Punk", and reminiscing with a smile about CM's win over John Cena at Money In The Bank 2011. Unfortunately, time hasn't been kind to that whole period. WWE bloody ruined it by refusing to stand still.
McMahon crowned an interim WWE Champ right after MITB, and cited Punk's departure with the original belt as his reason why. Rey Mysterio won that, dropped it to John Cena, then Punk beat Cena at SummerSlam only for Alberto Del Rio to cash in his briefcase. From there, Kevin Nash got involved for...reasons.
It was horrible, horrible booking that dumped all over the promise of a rebellious Punk holding Vince/WWE to ransom until meaningful change was affected. If he had a do-over, McMahon would likely hold off on Del Rio's MITB cash-in so Punk had more time to breathe, and he'd keep Nash on the bench.
That was seriously poor casting.
