One of the more fascinating insights to emerge from hours and hours of conversation between former Connecticut-dweller Bruce Prichard and 'Something To Wrestle' host Conrad Thompson has been the revelation that Vince McMahon's distaste for tag team wrestling is as much financial as it is emotional.

In short - why pay four guys to have a great when you two will do? This of course neglects a host of other reasons why tag team action is so endlessly valuable to a wrestling show, but in a life spent never neglecting the bottom line, the empiric McMahon will often lead with the dollars that control both his head and heart against the wisdom of his top advisors and core audience.

2016 saw the doubles division temporarily soar under the freed restraints of the new Draft and a quiet uprising in NXT, but this year's best efforts have quietly proffered the finest doubles clashes since the company's prior tag team peak.

After Tag Title matches stole both SummerSlam's main and pre-show, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Sheamus and Cesaro were at it yet again with another incredible effort slightly overshadowed by a wicked knock the 'Swiss Superman' took after sharing an overtly intimate moment with the enormous LED post.

The Bar were at their fierce best, with the story of their unity outweighing Seth and Dean's fragile relations playing out majestically until the last. Ambrose absorbed incredible punishment as his partner took his own lumps to render a save impossible, and their unlikely victory after some amazing false finishes capped off the best match of the show, and their lenghty series.
